weekend curfew

Curfew Superupdate 05/24/2009

Long time no blog, so here’s an extended yet condensed updat on happenings from the past month or so.

Blink-182Blink 182 is back together and going on an epic tour this summer with Fall Out Boy, Weezer, The All American Rejects, Taking Back Sunday, Chester French and Asher Roth. Blink’s Mark Hoppus and FOB’s Pete Wentz have teamed up to give away limited edition Blink/FOB usb drives loaded with uber exclusive content, causing fans all over the world to get all stirred up for these Octodrives.

Members of Forever the Sickest Kids and We The Kings’ crew were involved in an altercation with police in Philadelphia, PA. There were definitely accusations of police brutality. I hope they’re okay and I wish those guys the best.

As reported earlier, All Time Low‘s next album will be titled Nothing Personal. The band (now in Japan) recently did some filming (for an MTV promo & maybe a music video?) and fans are getting a glimpse at the new album art.

Sing It Loud (now in the UK) released a video for their song “Don’t Save Me.”

VersaEmerge also have a newish video for their song “Past Praying For.”

Weezer covered MGMT‘s “Kids” and Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” at some T-Mobile party (That Blink-182 also performed at).

Cobra Starship released their lastest single, “Good Girls Go Bad” featuring Leighton Meester of Gossip Girl fame. The track is off of the upcoming album, Hot Mess, which is due out in August.

Also be sure to check out the Gregory Brothers’ (incl. Michael Gregory) Auto-Tune the News. They’ve been the talk of the blogging town and have also been mentioned on some late night and morning TV shows.

Ok thoses updates have me exhausted. PHEW. Follow me @dtra and I’ll get back with more updates, including an extensive list of summer concerts for the Washington, DC Metropolitan area.

Nothing Personal

All Time LowBeginning at around 3:30pm eastern time Tuesday, pop punk homeboys All Time Low began quite the Twitter storm with two simple words: Nothing Personal.  From their own twitter accounts, singer/guitarist Alex Gaskarth, guitarist Jack Barakat, and drummer Rian Dawson (bassist Zack Merrick seems to be missing on Twitter thus far) began firing tweets in rapid succession. In true ATL fashion, most of them were just dirty insults directed at band members and friends. However, each message ended with the words: “Nothing Personal.” The gimmick exploded in popularity, gaining attention from teenage girls everywhere and even drawing tweets from Pete Wentz of Fall Out Boy, as well as Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 and +44.

Finally, some eight hours and countless Fail Whale sightings later, Gaskarth, Barakat and Dawson simultaneously tweeted a link to Gaskarth’s MySpace page. In his blog, Gaskarth  explains that Nothing Personal is actually the title of ATL’s new album, which is due for release in July. The guys went on to tweet a link to AbsolutePunk.net where fans can listen to an exclusive leak of the track “Weightless” off of the upcoming Hopeless Records release. According to the blog post, Nothing Personal became a “top key word on the site” (Twitter). In all, ATL pulled off pulled off a pretty decent scheme to build hype for their new album, for being a bunch of Baltimore suburban clowns–nothing personal.

All Time Low next appears in the area as part of Fall Out Boy’s Believers Never Die Part Deux Tour. They’ll join Metro Station, Cobra Starship and Hey Monday at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, MD on April 25.

In newish music news, listen to the lastest releases from Ace Enders & a Million Different People, New Found Glory, This Providence, and You Me And Everyone We Know, you’ll thank yourself.

Tis the season. This is a vid of my favorite Christmas song, “Yule Shoot Your Eye Out” by Fall Out Boy. Ignore the introduction by Pete Wentz, which falls into the TMI category. And no, I don’t hate my dad.

New Fall Out Boy CD drops Tuesday, December 16. Haven’t heard any of it yet, not even the new single. The CD is called Folie a Deux, check it and I will too.

UPDATE

Fall Out Boy is streaming Folie a Deux in its entirety on their MySpace page.

  • 11/20 Hammers and Strings: An Evening With Jack’s Mannequin and The Glass Passenger, with special guests Fun & Treaty Of Paris @ The 9:30 Club – Washington, DC (SOLD OUT)

billandtravI’ve been scoping out the scene for tickets to the sold out Jack’s Mannequin show. I saw some up on craigslist as well as listings on ebay. Though expect a markup of 30%-60% or more from these outlets.

The Academy Is… is on tour supporting their latest release, Fast Times at Barrington High. I’ve been a fan of TAI since they first signed with Fueled By Ramen. On Pete Wentz’s Decaydance imprint, TAI are from the suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, same as Wentz and the rest of labelmates Fall Out Boy. Check out the video for TAI’s single, “About a Girl.” The band’s fun attitude can be seen in their video updates, called TAITV, and their sick Halloween costumes. Listening to their progression from their first album, Almost Here through Santi and now to Fast Times, I’m definitely looking forward to finally seeing them play live.

On a side note, while browsing for this post I was on Pete Wentz’s blog and found a photo of Pharrell Williams (The Neptunes, N.E.R.D.) on election day. Wentz says:

this is my favorite election picture so far. ph (Pharrell) sitting in line for three hours in miami. there is no vip. there is no “ill absentee vote”. he stood in line like everyone else. because this is/was bigger than us. i love this picture…

Pete Wentz can be a really weird dude, but he’s right about that. He was also right to sign TAI. Now we’ll get to see if he was right about signing TAI’s current opening act, Hey Monday (formerly Blake). They’ve got big shoes to fill as the first act to be dually signed by Decaydance and Columbia Records.
