Facts and Fiction

The Downtown Fiction w/Parachute & The Goodnight Anthem @ Jammin' Java 4/10The Daily Chorus has reported that Fairfax,VA’s The Downtown Fiction has been causing quite the stir as of late. Their self-titled EP debuted on iTunes’ top 30 albums of last week. And if you thought that things couldn’t get any sweeter for the local trio, TDF also debuted at #93 on the Billboard HeatSeeker chart. I admittedly have no idea what  it takes to get on the Billboard HeatSeeker chart, but I assume that its quite an acheivement. The band, comprised of Cameron Leahy on guitar/vocals, David Pavluk on bass/vocals, and Eric Jones on drums/samples, will make their next local appearance at Jammin’ Java in Fairfax with Parachute (ex-Sparky’s Flaw, Parachute VA) and The Goodnight Anthem. I got a chance to meet Pavluk last year at Jammin Java where he worked and also performed with his former band, The Midnight Appointment. I wish him and his band the best, and hopefully I’ll be able to see them when they’re in town.

In other news, I was able to catch Tim Be Told when they played at Ebenezer’s Coffee House in DC. It was a great show and fun to watch. If anyone has heard that they may be changing their name to either Luan Be Told or Jim Be Told, that’s completely untrue.

Finally, look out for new releases next Tuesday, March17. St. Patrick’s Day album drops include Where Are You Now by This Providence, I Am The Hint by The Hint, and When I Hit The Ground by Ace Enders & a Million Different People. I’ve been looking forward to This Providence’s new album since the release of The Bright Lights EP in October 2008, and I’ve been a fan of Ace Enders since The Early November‘s beginnings. Justin Goldberg of SupJustin.com had some good words for Ace’s latest effort on his Twitter account.

Curfew Update 02/19/2009

Blast of newish stuff right here right now. As mentioned in the last post, both acoustic and full band versions of Parachute VA’s new track, “She Is Love” is now available on iTunes.  Thursday’s new album came out earlier this week. Their latest effort is entitled “Common Existence.” Meanwhile, earlier this month Two Tongues released their long awaited self-titled album. Two Tongues is band founded by Max Bemis of Say Anything and Chris Conley of Saves the Day. From start to finish, this is a great album and I especially have high praise for its first track, “Crawl.”

Michael Gergory has teamed up again with Barely Political, this time starring in a video with Obama Girl for his song “Obama Girl Stimulus Song.” Check out his YouTube channel here, and check out the video below:

In other news, about a week and a half ago I had the pleasure of going out and seeing Tim Be Told play at Ebenezers Coffee House in Washington, DC. The rock/jazz/soul quintet gave their fans a healthy dose of a feel good buzz to take with them on a Friday night. Playing to a packed house just blocks away from the National Mall, Tim Be Told lit up faces and enlightened ears with favorites like “Collison” and “Gravity’s Hold” from their debut album, Getting By. The band–Tim Ouyang (vocals/keys), Luan Nguyen (guitar/vocals), Andrew Chae (guitar), Jim Barredo (drums) and Parker Stanley (bass)–even slowed things down with an acoustic intermission, treating the crowd with covers and less frequently played material. They held nothing back, also showcasing tracks from their upcoming record. It was definitely a fun show, and hanging out with the guys after the show–it was business as usual with plenty of jokes and shenanigans. Check out this video below, or watch it on their blog for a glimpse of what I’m talking about.

Tim Be Told has just announced the launch of the TBTStore. The online store features band merchandise such as CDs, shirts and posters. In fact, the band has an exclusive, limited time offer:

We are announcing the launch of the TBTStore at www.tbtstore.com (or www.timbetold.com/store ) !  Come check it out. Until Dec. 1st, you’ll be able to buy a shirt/autographed CD package at a special price!

Be sure to browse through the band’s webstore and be sure to check their website for updates. Also have a peek at their newly revamped myspace page, and feel free to listen to their music whenever you can. Finally, if you can, go see them at Marymount University in Arlington, VA tomorrow, Nov 5. Ciao.

Curfew Update 10/22/08

First things first, the awesome guys in Charlottesville’s Tim Be Told are playing at Ebenezer’s Coffee House in Washington, DC. They’ll be playing with Zelos this Friday, Oct 24 from 7:30 to 9:30pm. The band, fronted by Tim Ouyang (vocals/keys) and rounded out by Luan Nguyen (guitar/vocals), Andrew Chae (guitar), Jim Barredo (drums) and Parker Stanley (bass), was recently picked up by Black Water Management and has a new album in the works. You can listen to their older recordings on their website and their myspace. I saw them play at DC9 in September, and boy their sound has matured over the past year. I also helped them film their award-winning music video for song, “Gravity’s Hold” during the summer. It’s directed by my friend Gretel Troung. Check out their show Friday night, check out their band blog, and check out the video:

In further update news, I’ll be gone for the next two weeks and wanted to bring everyone up to date on what shows will be coming up in the DC area.
